Barra 009 Airsoft Pistol Review
The barra 009 airsoft gun is an airsoft clone of a Glock 18. I bought this thing because I wanted to dryfire with a glock airsoft gun and also have the ability to do some force on force stuff in the future with something that feels somewhat like a real glock pistol.
A real 18 is essentially a 17 with a built in selector switch to go full auto. If you have it in semi auto mode, it is essentially the same functionally as a Glock 17. This does work great on the Barra and I figured having that feature would be a lot of fun versus getting Umarex’s Glock 17 clone.
So is this airsoft gun a good replica of the real thing? Well I can’t speak for a real Glock 18, but I’ve shot plenty of Glock 17s in my day.

A Pretty good Clone of a Glock 17 with some caveats
The clone is a pretty good adaptation of a real glock with some short comings. The magazine is weighted pretty heavily which gives the pistol a life like feel in terms of weight.
The air gun does function very reliably, at least with the low round count I have on it so far, having shot several magazines through it and run some drills with it preliminarily. The pistol is quite accurate. Mind you I was only shooting it at about 5 yards within my garage, but I was able to put the BBs one on top of the other essentially with 20 gram BBs.
Full auto is a mess, and I’m not sure if that is me as a shooter as I have never shot a full auto pistol, airsoft or real, but it fires so fast that I must have twitched a little and that sent BBs flying to the right, dumping a full mag.
The Barra 009 has many Standard Glock Features
The sights of course are standard glock style sights, with the white dot front post and the white square rear notched sight.
The pistol is a CO2 powered gas blowback, taking 12 gram CO2 cartridges. I was able to get about 3.5 magazines out of a standard 12 gram cartridge, which I think is pretty typical for CO2 powered airguns in general.
Dimensionally, the pistol is very close to a real Glock 17 in size. It works fine with my Safariland ALS holster built for a Glock 34, which also works with any of my 9mm glock double stack glock pistols, so working with the 17 wasn’t a surprise. However, it doesn’t work when I have a weapon light mounted so I’ll probably need to do some shaving on the frame. I suspect its the weird gas pedals they mold into the frame which I’ll be talking more about later.

The Barra 009 frame leaves a bit to be desired
However, the pistol itself without the mag is extremely light. The polymer is really thin and feels a lot lower quality than a real glock pistol. The controls are exactly the same as on a regular glock in terms of their placement. The slide release is functional. It feels just like the real thing. The slide itself is much lighter than a real slide as you might expect and much easier to rack. The magazine release works well as you might expect.
That said, it has some differences that make it a bit different than a real glock. While dimensionally they are similar, the frame doesn’t have much of a back strap at all, so it does have a slightly different feel than a real glock even though they have similar grip angles. Barra inexplicably put a gas pedal in the wrong spot, its too far back. Plus why you would want a gas pedal on an airsoft gun is beyond me. It gets in the way of an active grip. I’ll be sanding those off.
The accessory rail is cut like a real glock accessory rail in the correct spot. I was able to easily swap my Streamlight TLR-1 between my real glock pistol and the airsoft pistol.
The frame stippling is really weak. I like a more aggressive grip, so I’m going to wrap this in hockey tape and call it a day most likely.

The Barra 009 has Airsoft Quality Controls
The selector switch itself doesn’t have a lot of tension on it, its pretty loose and doesn’t feel very high quality.
The biggest issue with the pistol is the trigger. There is very little takeup, then the wall itself is super mushy before the break. The reset itself is there, but its a little longer than real glock and again, its a bit mushy.
Not the biggest deals in the world, but it will feel a little different than your actual glock in this regard.
The Barra 009 is comaptible with Umarex Glock 17.4 Magazines
The pistol is compatible with Umarex glock 17 Gen 4 magazines, which is really nice, as it makes finding replacement mags for this very easy. I was able to get replacements for about $30 on ebay, so I bought two which will allow me to run these on my real belt setup.
Conclusion : It’s a Good Option for Dryfire and Force on Force training
Overall my initial impressions are definitely positive, I’d say its a pretty descent clone of the real thing and a valuable training tool if you already run glock primarily. I’d like to get into airsoft more in the future, so Its nice having both a dryfire tool and a force on force training tool that is close enough to my real pistols.

Dad Advice for the Week
I want to leave you with some encouraging dad advice. I’ve come to realize at 33 years old that I really don’t have control over much in life, but realizing that the character of God is good has been a game changer to me. This passages comes from Matthew 7:7-11
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
That passage does not promise that if you ask God, He will give you your favorite sports car. It also is not saying that you will never have hard times. It does say that if we ask for good things, things that would actually be good for us, God will give it. Many times fame and fortune will not be good for you. Many times learning humility is good for you. He doesn’t withold anything that would be genuinely good for you from you and His wisdom is infantly greater than ours. Sometimes trial and hard times are actually good for you, and sometimes victories and prosperity are also good for you. In all things, good and things that we perceive as bad, realize that His character is ultimately good, and He’s giving you what you need, even if you can’t see the big picture. All things, all, work together for good to those who love God. Realizing and trusting in that has made my life a lot easier, and the sooner you can realize that in life, honestly the happier and more gratitude filled your life will be. Have a great week guys.
