Talon Grips, are they better than a pistol stipple Job?
Talon grips are amazing. They are extremely easy to install. They add a ton of utility to any pistol without permanently modifying the pistol itself.
Talon Grips
Talon grips are an easy to apply alternative to permanently modifying your pistol by stippling. Its a great solution if you want to add grip to your pistol without permanently modifying the firearm.
A non-permanent, easier alternative to Stippling
Typically if you want to get a better grip on your polymer pistol, you might stipple the pistol grip in order to create a rougher texture. Doing so allows you to get a better purchase on the handgun and helps with controlling pistol recoil.
However stippling a pistol takes time, a soldering iron, and if not done right can turn out pretty ugly. Stippling a firearm, if not well done, can even lower the value of the firearm. Google bubba no stipple and you’ll have a good laugh. If you do want to stipple your pistol, we have a guide on how to do it properly on our channel.
Talon Grips offers an alternative to Stippling
If that isn’t for you, instead a company called TALON Grips offers adhesive backed grips that can offer similar advantages to stippling your pistol without the risk and downsides of permanent modification. Talon grips are great, I run these rubbarized grips on both my Glock 34, and my EDC glock 26 pistol.
The grips are laser cut and designed for your specific handgun model. The designs are clean, and give you that custom stippled look and feel. They have the same effect that you get with stippling your pistol. They are fairly thin so they aren’t adding a ton of thickness to the frame itself.
Installation of Talon Grips is Easy
Installing the grips are easy. You’ll wipe down your frame with the included alcohol pad, and then carefully peel and stick the rubbarized grip to your actual frame. The grip is meant to be a little bit oversized, which allows you some tolerance when it comes to the actual install if you don’t line things up absolutely perfectly.
Simply cut away any extra material where applicable with a pen knife or razor blade. Get it as tight as you can, but Dont worry if there are areas that are lifting as the next step of applying a heat source will iron those out.
Once you’re happy with how everything is positioned, you should apply a heat to adhere the grip to the frame. A heatgun or your wife’s hair dryer will work just fine.
TALON Grips recommends that you heat the grip area until it is about as hot as a cup of coffee.
Press down on any areas that were previously bubbling or sticking up and ensure everything is tacked down smoothly.
Talon Grips Range Performance
Taking this out to the range, the talon grips have held up extremely well. Talon says that you should expect the grips to last for about 1 to 3 years, making this an very practical product if you aren’t sold on stippling your grip.
Range performance is great. A true stipple job is a little deeper, so its not quite as good as a quality stipple job, but it is very similar and much better than stock. Some competitions, like the Glock Shooting Sports foundation, don’t consider the talon grip a permanent modification, thus it is an allowed modification in certain divisions that aim to keep the glock stock.
For $20, Talon Grips are hard to beat
With a $20 price tag, talon grips are crazy affordable for the utility and added control that they offer you. Overall I highly recommend that you take a look at them.
