CZ 75D Compact – Best Metal Frame Concealed Carry Gun
Today we’re going to take a deep look at the CZ 75D PCR Compact. The CZ 75D is a subcompact 9mm pistol is really nice. Made in kansas city by CZ USA, this aluminum framed pistol is heavy duty and is a good option for concealed carry. I’m not usually a fan of metal pistols, I like my plastic framed guns like Glock, but this one I was really impressed with.
The machining and finish is top notch, its a beautiful pistol. Let’s start top to bottom. One of the things I love most about CZ is that the guns have a really high sitting frame with a minimalist slide. This means you can get your support hand grip way up on the pistol, making these really easy to shoot.

The CZ 75D compact has excellent ergonomics
All CZ pistols have excellent ergonomics, I’m a big fan of the polymer framed CZP10C, but if I was going to get a metal framed CZ for concealed carry, this would be it. The sights themselves are steel and very nice, easy to pick up. The slide serrations are well defined and actually with the minimalist slide this would be very comfortable for EDC, although being a little bit on the heavy side at 27.5 ounces.
The CZ 75D compact is DA/SA with a great trigger
The pistol is hammer fired double action single action. The double action trigger is smooth but a little heavy. One of the better double action triggers I’ve shot. The gun features a decocker, so with the hamme half cocked the trigger pull isn’t as bad. In single action mode the trigger pull is very light.
CZ has some of the best triggers on any of the pistols I’ve shot. This one is no exception. It has a well defined wall and super clean and light break. The reset is short and very tangible as well.
The CZ 75D compact has great features
The gun features an external manual safety, which is crisp and easy to use. I train primarily on glock, so the CZP10C felt a little more at home for me as I don’t train with an external safety. However some guys especially coming from a 1911 will like the safety on this. The extended beaver tail and high slide makes slide bite essentially impossible.
Those with big hands would appreciate that aspect of this gun.
The checkered grip is also very tactile. Some metal framed guns are way too smooth and it makes it hard to grip the gun. The cz grip is excellent.
The CZ 75D compact has a 15 + 1 round capacity
The stock magazines have a 15 round capacity. The pistol is also extremely accurate. It features a cold hammer forged barrel, so this thing will last you tens of thousands of rounds. It is very shootable. Honestly I loved the feel of this gun and its a pleasure to shoot. This particular gun was a friend’s gun, and he actually likes to run this in our local USPSA matches. I’ve shot it on a few different range trips at this point as well, and I dont’ think either of us have experienced a malfunction with this several hundred rounds in. It is a really tight and well put together pistol.

My only Complaints about the Gun
I only have two complaints with this gun. The first was the location of the slide release. I have pretty average hands, glock fits my hands really well, but I can barely get my thumb over to the slide release on this without breaking grip significantly.
This isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but I’m pretty used to Glock and I didn’t have that problem on the CZ-P10C. The slide release is just a litte too far forward on this pistol for my liking. Thats a bigger factor here because the slide doesn’t have a lot of real estate for going over the top when reloading. If your hands are a little bigger this won’t be a problem for you. The second complaint is that it doesn’t have a pic rail adapter, so you can’t mount a flashlight to it.
That limits its utility in my book since I like to run universal holsters with the streamlight TLR-1. If I personally had to pick a pistol from CZ for concealed carry, honestly, I’d probably stick with the cheaper CZ-P10C only because its essentially a glock made by CZ and is so similar to the guns that I know best, but again, this is largely personal preference. I know a lot of the viewers are big 1911 guys and prefer a metal framed gun, and this gun will be right up your alley if that’s you.
Conclusion
So overall this gun is an excellent choice. It isn’t my first choice for concealed carry for the reasons that I listed, but if I was to get into a metal framed pistol I’d be looking into CZ before looking at any other brand. If you pick one of these up you won’t regret it.
