American, Handmade, Quality, Affordable Holsters
There’s something about handmade, quality, American made holsters that I just love. Skydas is a small business out of Marrietta, Georgia. The company is run by and employs veterans and retired law enforcement. The company is All American and as pro-American as they come. They also make a very good holster.
Why I love Skydas Holsters
Skydas is a small brand, but they’ve quickly become one of my favorite holster manufacturers, a best kept secret so to speak. When you look at their social media, it’s unashamedly pro-family, pro-American, pro all the values that we can get behind.
The holsters themselves are made of thick kydex. They’re sturdy. There’s a lot of thought that goes into the design, with plenty of options for adjustment towards your needs. The molding is always a perfect fit.
They don’t necessarily have a wide variety of holster options, but for the variety that they offer, the quality is top notch. Whenever I buy a pistol, I check to see if Skydas is making one before I look elsewhere.
Where to Buy?
Skydas Gear Holsters
Skydas Gear Holsters are awesome and available for a variety of pistols. The price is most affordable on Amazon. These are handmade holsters, not some cheap knock off amazon holsters.
IWB Jedburgh Glock 19 Holster
I own a Jedburgh IWB Glock 19 holster with FDE Kydex, their lightbearing model for the Streamlight TLR-1.
I am carrying it with a pretty Gucci PSA Dagger equipped, a pistol that I love and that I’ve done a great deal of work on, and a Streamlight TLR-1 HL.
I really like this holster. It is cut in such a way that most of the retention is on the light itself, allowing this holster to be used with a variety of similar Glock Pistols. This holster works just as well with my Glock 34 as it does with my PSA dagger.
Price (4 out of 5)
For a quality holster at an affordable price poin, Skydas is hard to beat. Their Jedburgh holster retails for $65 on amazon at the time of the writing of this article. It’s a very reasonable price for the quality that you get, especially if you’re looking for a light bearing holster.
Safety (4.5 out of 5)
The skydas holster is made of a hard kydex material. This material is thick. There is absolutely no chance of a negligent discharge happening from the sides of the pistol.
Because the holster is lightbearing, there has to be some space around the trigger guard from the rear of the pistol. This is a necessity with any light bearing holster for lights as wide as the TLR-1, so I can’t knock skydas much for this. You’d have to really try to get something in there and angle it just right to be able to pull the trigger. It is a very safe holster overall.
Concealable (5 out of 5)
It is typically pretty difficult to conceal carry with a larger pistol. I have carried both this PSA dagger before, and even my competition Glock 34 just to see, with this holster. The holster is designed for in the waistband carry at the 3 O’clock position, being a right handed holster. The added claw helps when conealing in this position, especially with longer gripped handguns. The long, full size Glock 34 / 17 grip is a bit much to ask of any concealed carry holster, but I can comfortably conceal my Glock 19 / PSA Dagger / any other clone easily. The claw is especially helpful since I currently have a GG Magwell attached to my PSA dagger.
Comfortable (4 out of 5)
The holster itself is pretty comfortable. I’ve had other holsters, like Tier 1 Concealed, that honestly are the most comfortable I’ve ever used. This isn’t quite to that level, but its also half the price. It is still plenty comfortable when used in that 3 O’Clock position and also very usable for appendix carry. The sweat guard is solid and keeps the pistol from making too much contact with your body. My dagger has a custom stipple job, and I’ve found that there’s enough separation between me and the gun that it doesn’t bother me as much as it does when I carry other holsters.
Retainment (5 out of 5)
This holster holds pistols tightly enough that I can shake them, fully loaded, upside down, and the pistol will not fall out. It makes a distinct “click” noise that you’d expect with a molded kydex holster.
The retainment isn’t so tight however that you can’t pull the weapon from the holster. The gun leaves the holster very easily, with the right amount of effort. Exactly what you’d want from a concealed carry holster.
Durability (5 out of 5)
This holster has thick kydex. I’ve had other, cheaper brands of holsters that I’ve purchased on Amazon, come with thinner kydex than this. Those holsters over time with every day carry, usually after about a year, have the carry clip come loose, stripped from the kydex. That hasn’t been a problem with this holster.
Although I most often carry a Glock 26 in a Tier 1 concealed holster, I’ve carried with this holster on and off for 2 years and have never had an issue.
Conclusions
Overall, Skydas makes a very good holster. At $65, its a great value. It one of the great, unheard of brands that is a huge value. Overall, I’m a big fan of this holster.
